THE USE OF GAME WEBSITES FOR LEARNING IN PANDEMIC COVID-19 DURING THE ONLINE LEARNING AMONG THE STUDENTS OF 8 JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, CENTRAL JAKARTA

      Nowadays, learning English is more important because English is the universal language. Learning English is important because is used in many fields such as, Politics, Economics, Social, and Education. Therefore, English as a language in international communication is needed by many people to deliver thought and interact in a variety of situation. 

       English is one of the foreign languages in Indonesia. Many people compete to be able to master English. English is considered as a difficult subject for the Indonesian, because English is completely different from Indonesian language that can be seen from the system of structure, pronunciation and vocabulary. Due to the reason, it is better to teach English in early age. Especially at school. 

       Learning English can be teaching by any sources. Learning by television, learning from teacher at school, learning by music and learning by games. But first, learning English is taught to the students at Junior High School, Senior High School and University. 

       In 21st century learning, the students can learn with the technology and also games. Game is the way to learn English that is more interesting. According to Cambridge Assessment English, Games are a fun way to practise English – it can be a really motivating way to learn a language. Games are also great for children who are shy or worried about making mistakes. It can give them an opportunity to communicate in English in a safe and fun way. By taking games as the learning source can make students will be not boring to learn English.

       Nowadays in 2020. People in the world have got a deadly virus that is COVID-19. All of the world got the virus and the activity is starting from home. According to news medical.net says that ”Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. COVID-19 is caused by one virus, called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, or SARS-CoV-2.” It is happened in 2020 until now. In Indonesia, The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It was confirmed to have spread to Indonesia on 2 March 2020, after a dance instructor and her mother tested positive for the virus. Both were infected from a Japanese national (Wikipedia). The virus still here and very dangerous. 

       The government in Indonesia decides to do the online learning or study from home for students. Because the school is closed. From Kemendikbud said that ”Monday March, 23rd 2020 to do the online learning or study from home. The teachers have to prepare the teaching and learning with fun way.” Because it is about online learning. The teacher cannot meet directly to the students at school. 

        Online learning is using many applications for to do that. The teacher and the students use ZOOM MEETING, GOOGLE MEET, GOOGLE CLASSROOM and etc to reach the teaching and learning process. The online learning is too boring because we only see the screen and cannot talk to each other by face to face like meet at school. The teacher has to make some kind of fun learning activity to face the online learning problem. One of the teachings is using games. Using games for teaching and learning is already happened before pandemic COVID-19 or online learning. But, using games websites can be the solutions to face problem of online learning. 

       As the teacher observation from teaching learning process. Teacher use game websites to make other fun ways for teaching to students. The game websites for teaching are QUIZIZ and WORDWALL. They are easy to use for teacher and students. The researcher uses those websites. Quiziz has feature more colourful and fun and also Wordwall is the same. The teacher can create his/her games in those websites. The teacher also can give the games to the students that suitable with the material or topic that is learned. 

       Starting from wordwall, Wordwall.net allows teachers to create interactive games and printed materials for their students. Teachers simply enter the content they want and we automate the rest. There are many features that wordwall gives to the player by making custom activities for your classroom, quizzes, match ups, word games, and much more.

       The researcher uses this for teaching and learning in PPG DALJAB 2021 to make innovation of teaching and learning activity. In this era, technology is important to make develop the knowledge.

And the last is Quiziz is the other website for teaching and learning activity. The teacher can use for students to do some fun in the beginning or starting the lesson.

       As the teacher, don’t need to worry about making fun learning activity. The teacher can use this game websites to develop the teaching and learning activity to give stimulus for students who don’t like learning English or boring. The researcher is using those websites to students of 8 Junior High School. The result is the students feel more comfortable and happier to answer the game. Students in 8 Junior High School are too shy because of online learning. 

        However, providing these games is having benefits for teacher and the students. But there is also weakness from this because it needs good device and Wi-Fi or Personal Data to access these games.
